Homegrown
Self sufficiency at home
Homegrown helps whānau establish gardens at home, designed around their space, needs, and food preferences. 26 gardens have been built, with 42 more on the waitlist.
As part of our 2024-2028 strategy plan, Homegrown is a new programme that sees our team work closely with clients and community members to learn how to grow kai in their own backyards.
Whether it be simply needing seedlings for their existing gardens, all the way through to walking alongside them on the whole journey (building beds and providing soil, worm towers, compost, seedlings), our hope is that this initiative will enable whanau who find they enjoy gardening, to migrate from our Kai Assist programme towards self-sufficiency.
Homegrown helps whānau establish gardens at home, designed around their space, needs, and food preferences. 26 gardens have been built, with 42 more on the waitlist.
This programme fosters independence, connection, and a deeper relationship with kai.
“I have tasked the 7yr old with nightly watering of the celery and lettuce and it’s a great new beginning for both of us.” – Tane
