Kai Assist is for those in our community experiencing food insecurity

Kai Assist is our foundational programme, delivering kai packs (17–20kg each) to whānau experiencing food insecurity.

In FY2025, we distributed 6,883 packs to 1,479 families.

These packs are thoughtfully curated in accordance with healthy nutrition and formal guidelines. Packs contain dairy, produce, proteins and are 3 full shopping bags laden with goods – enough for a family of 4 for 3 meals a day, for 3 days.
“The food parcels, rather than being cheaply thrown together, show design; ingredients are matched in the bags, and often zip lock bags with sugar, flour etc are provided.” – Nicholas

Kai Assist is often the first step in a wider journey with SKGF. We partner with more than 30 local agencies including iwi, schools, and health providers, to provide wrap around support if required. For example, budgeting assistance, counselling, health, group sessions, or parental support.
